(Easy Suet)

Great project for 4 year old or older - with supervision

Complexity - Medium

Time to Complete -  20 minutes

Main Ingredient - Fat scraps

Needed - 1 cup of fat scraps, chopped
1 1/2 cups cornmeal, regular grind (not coarse or fine)

NOTE: This recipe will help feed any bird that visits suet feeders. It does not have all the qualities of our more involved homemade suet, but it's still a backyard favorite.

Step 1 - Put fat and cornmeal into a deep bowl.

Step 2 - Using your hands, mix thoroughly.

Step 3 - Again, using your hands, pack the mixture together into small blocks, keeping in mind that they will need to fit into your suet feeder.

Step 4 - Freeze any easy suet that you do not intend to use right away. Be careful to keep the individual blocks separated so you can use them when needed. Try placing a small piece of wax paper in-between the individual blocks. Then you can easily take one at a time when it's time to feed your birds.
